Responsible clinical decision

Assess safety before discussing benefits.

Medical cannabis does not mean zero risk. THC, CBD and other preparations are not interchangeable. An individual assessment should review the product, dose, medical history, medications and high-risk activities.

Medicines and supplements

CBD and other cannabinoids can affect other treatments or be affected by them. The review should include doses and frequency.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Health authorities advise avoiding CBD, THC and cannabis during pregnancy or breastfeeding because of significant risks and uncertainties.

Mental health

A personal or family history of psychosis, episodes of disorganization or problematic consumption require special care.

Liver and other conditions

Certain CBD products have been associated with liver abnormalities. The clinical context and monitoring depend on the product and dose.

Driving and high-risk work

THC can affect coordination, judgment and reaction time. Do not drive or operate machinery while under its effects.

Quality and provenance

A label alone does not guarantee concentration, purity or freedom from contaminants. A non-standardized product changes the risk assessment.

Do you need to review these risks in your context?

Prepare an assessment to review medicines, background and risk activities with a professional.

Seek immediate care for a severe reaction

Difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, severe pain, seizures, marked confusion, thoughts of self-harm or psychotic symptoms require urgent care. CAMED does not replace an emergency hotline or emergency services.
