Frequently asked
questions.

We clear up your doubts about our care model and the regulatory framework for medical cannabis in Colombia.

Can I buy cannabis through CAMED?

No. CAMED does not sell, produce or distribute cannabis. We provide telemedicine scheduling and administrative support. Access to treatment depends exclusively on a licensed doctor’s prescription, and dispensing takes place at authorized pharmaceutical establishments in accordance with applicable regulations.

What is a compounded preparation?

It is a medicine prepared by a pharmacist to fulfil a medical prescription for an individual patient. In Colombia, these preparations must be made at establishments certified in Good Preparation Practices (BPE) by INVIMA and registered with the Fondo Nacional de Estupefacientes.

What does "flower as a finished product" mean?

Decree 1138 of 2025 creates a future pathway to regulate cannabis flower as a finished product for medical purposes, but further technical regulations are still required. CAMED does not currently sell or dispense flower under that decree. Current guidance is based on Law 1787 of 2016, Decree 811 of 2021 and medical prescriptions where appropriate.

What are the requirements if I'm a minor?

Assessment and possible treatment of minors are subject to strict clinical and regulatory conditions. Legal representation and explicit consent from parents or guardians are required. The decision remains within the treating doctor’s professional autonomy and ethical responsibility.

Clinical and safety warnings

Based on scientific evidence and regulatory guidance, you should be aware of the following risks associated with cannabinoid therapies:

  • Driving and machinery: It increases the risk of motor vehicle accidents. Patients must not drive or operate heavy machinery if they experience cognitive or motor impairment.

  • Psychiatric risk: There is substantial evidence of a statistical association with the development of psychosis, with greater risk among frequent users. The doctor will carry out psychiatric screening beforehand.

  • Dizziness and drowsiness: THC products are associated with dizziness, which increases the risk of falls, especially in older adults.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Avoiding use is strongly recommended because of uncertainty and risks identified in the medical literature. Always consult your treating professional.
