A person who needs to move with a treatment of medical cannabis usually looks for a single document that will solve everything: certificate, card, medical statement or prescription. In Colombia, there is no public information card at public and public sources that itself makes any cannabis an authorized product or prevents any monitoring. The most robust protection arises from a consistent set: clinical assessment, valid prescription, regulated product, verifiable provenance and quantity compatible with treatment.
1. Identify what product you have
Decree 811 of 2021 distinguishes finished products and compounded preparations. Finished products should have the applicable health authorisation and be sold at establishments authorized by their category. A compounded preparation, however, is prepared for an individual patient at an authorized and certified pharmaceutical establishment or service for that activity.
For compounded preparations of cannabis, the rule requires that the packaging, packaging or sign specify as prescribed by the medical order and at least identify the concentrations of THC and CBD to set the dose. That sign is an especially important piece of traceability during a shift.
- Finished product: check to retain your health registration or authorisation, manufacturer, batch, concentration and other information about the packaging.
- compounded preparation: should be patient and individual prescription and come from an establishment capable of production.
- Oil, extract or blend without sign: a separate prescription does not automatically prove who prepared it, what it contains and what its concentration is.
- Cannabis flower: Decree 1138 of 2025 established a regulating path for flowers as a medicinal finished product, but that does not turn any free or informal flowers into an authorized medicine.
2. Warm a support folder
No single official list referred to as "documents to carry medical cannabis." The following folder is a practical recommendation to make the clinical and commercial context verifiable, not a guarantee against a procedure.
- The patient's name and name as required.
- Current, complete and legible registration: patient, professional, date, product or preparation, concentration, pharmaceutical form, path, dose, frequency and duration as applicable.
- A brief copy of the doctor's medical history or medical statement explaining his or her treatment, only if necessary and protecting clinical data that do not contribute to monitoring.
- Product in the package or package delivered by the pharmaceutical establishment without changing to a generic bottle.
- Input, voucher or dispensing support where it is possible to identify establishment, date and product.
- verifiable contact details of the prescriptor and the dispenser's establishment. A number on a card does not replace clinical or health documentation.
3. That's an explain amount.
Law 30 of 1986 established a quantitative definition of a personal-use dose, including up to twenty grams of marijuana and up to five grams of hashish. However, these amounts must not be treated as an automatic rule for medicinal products or as a guarantee of legality. Liquid preparations are measured and labelled differently, and therapeutic doses respond to prescribed clinical needs.
The Constitutional Court stated in decision C-404 of 2022 that, in the penal analysis of the port, the destination is fundamental and the quantity itself does not solve the case. Even a small amount can be problematic if intended for sale or supply and an quantity above the personal threshold requires an analysis as to whether it really corresponds to its own consumption or supply. In a medical treatment, coherence between prescription, posology, length of journey and quantity of transport helps to show the aim.
4. Do not confuse medical use with distribution
Section 376 of the Penal Code includes conduct such as transport, bearing, storage, selling, offering or supplying controlled substances without permission. That application has been interpreted by case law as intended but to share, give or sell part of the product deviates from documented individual use, even if its recipient has a prescription.
- Do not bring the product formulated to another person or allow anyone else to transport them without the patient, unless there is a revised justification and support for that case.
- Do not mix products from different patients with the same package.
- Do not divide, repackage or label products on your own to sell or give to others.
- Do not have a prescription as an explanation for products that do not match as prescribed.
Do you serve a certificate or a medical record?
A clinical medical statement can confirm that there's a medical-patient relationship or a management plan. It may be useful as an additional support, especially if you sum up diagnosis, treatment and validity with patient permission. It does not, however, replace the prescription if required and does not itself prove the product's health.
Untrust of cards or certificates sold as permits to carry any flower, oil or derivative. Decree 811 and information from Invima concentrate health law on authorisations, establishments, production, dispensing and traceability, and not on a private commercial credit.
A 60 second review before you leave
- 1Compare the patient's name with his or her identification.
- 2Check date, concentration, dose, route and duration of treatment.
- 3It confirms that the product coincides with the prescribed and keeps the dispensing sign.
- 4Calculates a quantity proportional to displacement and retains the original unit of measure.
- 5Keep an invoice or provenance support and a digital backup.
- 6It transport the closed product, protected from heat, pollution and access to children or third parties.
- 7If you're going to consume it, check independently about place rules and clinical indications.
