Short answer
UK guidance says travellers leaving with a controlled-drug medicine should be able to prove that it is theirs with a prescription or clinician letter and must check the destination country's rules. Colombia separately applies a standard 30-day limit and prescription requirement. Neither document alone guarantees border clearance.
The rule people miss
UK proof of prescription is necessary, but Colombia decides entry
The UK Home Office advises people leaving the UK with a controlled-drug medicine to carry proof of prescription and check the destination country's import law. It also says UK residents who receive controlled drugs abroad should contact the Drug and Firearms Licensing Unit before returning with them.
Ask the prescribing clinician for a signed letter listing the medicine, dose, strength and travel dates. Confirm the product's schedule and contact the DFLU or Colombian authorities if the route is not clear.

Confirm the UK schedule and prescriber evidence
Ask whether the medicine contains a controlled drug and obtain a prescription or clinician letter with your name, medicine, dose, strength, frequency, travel dates and prescriber registration details.
Apply Colombia's 30-day traveller rule
Article 83 of Resolution 1478 of 2006 limits controlled medicine carried for personal treatment to a standard 30-day supply and requires an incoming patient to carry a copy of the prescription.
Separate border paperwork from clinical care
A travel document does not create a medical indication. A Colombian clinician must independently assess the case; a prescription is issued only when clinically appropriate.
Plan the return before the outbound flight
The rules of the departure country, every transit country, Colombia and the country of return must all be checked. A Colombian prescription does not automatically authorise entry elsewhere.

What this pathway can and cannot do.
Is a UK prescription automatically valid at the Colombian border?+
No. It is important evidence, but Colombian quantity and entry requirements still apply, as do airline and transit-country rules.
Does CAMED provide a UK export licence?+
No. Only the relevant UK authority can advise on or issue UK licensing. CAMED explains and coordinates the Colombian medical pathway.
What if I receive treatment while in Colombia?+
If a Colombian clinician prescribes a controlled medicine, plan the return before obtaining or carrying it. UK residents receiving controlled drugs abroad are directed by GOV.UK to contact the DFLU before returning with them.
Can CAMED guarantee a prescription?+
No. The clinician decides independently after reviewing the individual case, risks, current medicines and treatment objectives.
